Functional Medicine

We are one of the first multi-disciplinary specialist functional medicine clinics in the north. We truly believe in a holistic and therapeutic assessment of patients, a notion at the very heart of functional medicine.

Health is a journey of twists and turns that we have to tackle on a daily basis.

Life is a contact sport in which our body innately supports and cares for us through everything. We recognise this and by combining functional and conventional medicine with personalised care, we look at the whole body and treat the symptoms from every angle.

You are in charge of your health; let your Dr Indra care team unlock your potential to be the best you.

Dr Indra Barathan

Indra qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, now known as Imperial College London.

Since then she went on to train as a GP and started practicing in 2001. She has worked in Australia and also in a number of practices in Lancashire. She is now settled in Leeds.

Practicing as a NHS GP she is a true believer in a holistic assessment of a patient.

“Who is the patient who is experiencing the disease and not the disease the patient is experiencing”

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine address the whole person and not an isolated set of symptoms.

As a functional medicine practitioner, we spend time with my patients listening to their histories and looking at the interactions of the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that can influence long term health and complex chronic conditions.

The key to functional medicine is treating each person as an individual and getting to the root cause of health problems. It’s a system orientated approach to assessing the whole patient and engages both the patient and the doctor in a therapeutic relationship

It offers a powerful new clinical model for assessment, treatment and prevention of chronic disease. Practitioners consider each individual to be unique and recommend personalised nutrition and lifestyle programs rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach.

Functional Medicine uses a combination of:

Food and hydration
Nutrients / Botanicals
Medicine to support healing
Mindfulness / Meditations / Therapy
Exercise / Movement
Community and Relationship
